Just yesterday I was reading ‘The Great Indian Novel’ by Shashi Tharoor. I have read many other adaptations of Mahabharata which are much more romantic and appealing to senses. So what was essential thing I loved about “The Great Indian Novel’? Dripping with sarcasm, rich in humour, the book makes you laugh till you can read no longer.
Humour adds a whole new dimension to life. If you can make people laugh, people will love you. Burdened with stress and a day’s sweat your friends and family want to relax. While listening to peaceful music is just lovely after a day’s hard work, laughter can add flavour to even day’s morose work. Why?
Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Now who does not want a happy and healthy life? And even better, for free.
What does humour do for you?
Laughter is infectious. We see someone laughing and we start laughing for no reason at all. Laughter spreads. Happiness spreads.
Humour creates a positive impression. If you can make a person laugh you will create an impression of a jolly person. Public speakers constantly use humour to keep the audience engaged. Who does not want to hang out with someone who is so happy that he can infect others with happiness?
Humour help us hide our emotions. The best thing to do when someone verbally abuses you is to laugh it away. That would create an non-penetrable aura around you. The worst thing to do when someone tries to hurt you is to show them that you are hurt.
Humour has an invincible strength. It can protect you from any evil in the world, even in the worst situation.
Beware that though humour is an asset, it is a dangerous asset. If used at the wrong place and wrong time, it can make the world crash around you. The reason behind this is that humor is related to sentiments. Whatever you say should not hurt the sentiments of the audience.
Humour can not and should not be used to lighten critical situations.
Also, if a good joke is not understood then it creates an environment of discontent.
So think twice before adding a joke to your conversation. After that LOL!
“Like a welcome summer rain, humor may suddenly cleanse and cool the earth, the air and you.“- Langston Hughes
“A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It’s jolted by every pebble on the road.“- Henry Ward Beecher
Feel free to share a good joke. Laugh out loud.
